If an important event occurs in your life, you must inform A.I.E.S.T. Local 56. If we are not informed of such an event within 31 days, medical evidence may be required by the insurer, restrictions may be imposed on protection, or coverage may be denied.

Important events include:

  • Marriage (legitimate or common-law)
  • A separation
  • Divorce or break-up of a common-law relationship
  • Death of spouse or insured child
  • One year of common-law relationship with a person of the opposite sex or the same sex
  • End of a common-law relationship with a person of the opposite sex or the same sex
  • Maternity leave
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Loss of spousal protection
  • Termination of Dependent Eligibility for Dependent Care Due to Age or Student Status
  • Termination of an employee (suggestion: notify BCI the same day of the termination to avoid the reimbursement of claims)

In addition, it is important to notify us of any change of address, telephone and email.

According to the eligibility criteria of the Act for prescription drug insurance (Bill 33), you have the obligation to join a private plan, as long as you are eligible for it. Please note that a leave of absence is no exception to this rule since your employment relationship is maintained during this absence and the contract stipulates that you must maintain some or all of the benefits depending on the type of absence.

We would like to inform you that sections 47 and 48 of Bill 33 allow an insurer or an administrator to terminate the group insurance coverage of a member who fails to pay the premium, after having received a notice of intent from one of them.

You have thirty (30) days from the date of this notice to respond, otherwise we will be forced to terminate your coverage. A copy of this notice will be sent to the RAMQ, which will apply the regulations of Bill 33 accordingly.

A member may request a refund of up to $ 200 for a pair of glasses. He must provide a copy of his invoice to the union office. A reimbursement request can be made once every 2 years.
